Design of the brand and digital experience for Responda, First Security’s on-demand security patrol app: order a check on your home or business with no contract, no subscription — pay only per call-out. The challenge was reframing a traditionally locked-in, analogue service to feel as immediate as calling a rideshare.
The name carries most of that positioning. Responda reads as respond-a — turning the core promise, rapid response, into its own ownable consumer brand, distinct from First Security’s more corporate identity.
The interface design follows from one fact: nobody opens Responda when things are calm. It’s used in the middle of a stressful, sometimes frightening moment — an alarm’s gone off, there are signs of a break-in — when someone urgently needs a guard on site. So the four-step flow — Request, Dispatch, Real-time status, Check & Report — strips the experience down to one clear thing at a time, with no ambiguity about what’s happening or when help arrives.
That same thinking carries through the report at the end: the property check captures photographic evidence and uploads it straight into the record, doubling as documentation for an insurance claim later. It’s a small addition, but it’s what separates an app that just dispatches a guard from one that looks after you through the whole event — not just the urgent part.
